SHRAVAN TEEJ DATES :
10 Aug 2013, 30 Jul 2014 & 17 Aug 2015.
A festival unique to the State of Rajasthan, dedicated to the
reunion of Shiva, the God of destruction and his wife, Parvati,
manifested as the Godess Teej. The dates coincide with the monsoon
rains which bring much relief to the parched earth.
An occasion to celebrate the gift of nature, women wear traditional
Lahariya – sarees with wave patterns in multicolour. And colour
their palms with Mehndi (henna powder that leaves a deep orange
colour when dried and washed), Sindoor (dry vermilion powder) and
coloured bangles. Ladies swing on wooden benches tied between the
branches of trees
In the village : Try on the traditional and most natural beauty aids
of henna, turmeric and vermillion, adorn yourself in traditional
finery, and swing your way to happiness !
