Kemri Nature Reserve, Rawla Bathera and a circuit of 10 kilometers around offers
immense diversity of vegetation including deciduous jungle cover, scrub forest,
grasslands, farms, deep and shallow water bodies.
So a huge variety of avian species can find their most suitable and favourite
habitat here. With some basic training, you can learn to identify 50 species of
birds within two days, and the expert eye could easily push this to 200 species.
Until about 50 years ago, the area was renowned as one of the best birding spots
in Rajasthan, and we have now developed the facilities to showcase this to the
world.
Drive across from the forest to the grasslands to the several lakes, all within
5 km of each other, set up your viewing equipment, field guide book in hand, and
start spotting. Should you succeed in photographing a bird species that has not
been recorded in the current season, we will be happy to pay you a small fee for
your success!
Walk around the Reserve or take a thrilling drive through the jungle at night
and you may see some of the 20+ species of mammals and reptiles that thrive in
this eco system. Look out for the agile runners like the nilgai and chinkara
antelopes, the reputed scavengers - hyenas and jackals who also turn
opportunistic hunters, the most cunning ambush hunters - jungle cat and caracal,
the sentinels of the forest – the black faced langur monkeys and squirrels
perched in the trees alert for the leopard, the shy nocturnals including
porcupines, civets and hares, and the wild boars built like compact, destructive
battle tanks.
